WAPA to Feature IGSHPA’s Web Site
IGSHPA’s Web site will be featured as the Web site of the month in the June issue of the Energy Services Bulletin, a publication of the Western Area Power Administration (WAPA). IGSHPA To Launch GeoExchange Drillers Training
IGSHPA will offer attendees of the 2008 Technical Conference and Expo a new geoexchange training opportunity, the Accredited Drillers Training – Applications of Production Drilling and Borehole Construction for GeoExchange Systems. The new training workshop will train individuals on proper construction and completion methods of vertical GeoExchange boreholes. Current drilling contractors searching for opportunities to expand their business into the GeoExchange industry should attend this workshop.

Members in the News
Sean Dillon’s house, complete with a ground source heat pump (GSHP) system, was recently mentioned in a Newsweek article on green building. Dillon, of North Bend, Wash., is an Accredited Installer at GeoSonic and expects his $34,000 system to pay for itself in six years.

When reporter Don Shelby of WCCO in Minnesota was looking for expertise on GSHPs, he called on Jim Cusack of UMR Geothermal. Cusack said the average consumer would save 50 to 80 percent on his or her heating bill with a GSHP system. Shelby reported on a remodeled home in Minnetonka, Minn., which received Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) platinum certification thanks in part to its GSHP system.

Strategic Energy Solutions, an engineering firm that focuses on commercial geothermal applications, recently purchased a new location to meet the company’s growing needs. The new headquarters, formerly a vacant factory, will be renovated to LEED standards and will include the installation of a GSHP system, President Steven DiBerardine said.

Thanks to Major Geothermal and his GSHP system, Steve Szabo’s electric meter is going backward. In April, Denver’s CBS affiliate reported that Szabo, of Longmont, Colo., sends power back to the grid and shrinks his utility bill by using geothermal technology and solar panels.
